175 Years of Settlement
Starting at 12 noon on Saturday 5th October and 10am on Sunday 6th of

Smeaton is celebrating the settlement of Captain John Hepburn 175 years
ago with an exciting weekend of interesting
and historic activities and events.
Everyone is welcome to be part of this exciting weekend. Meet the locals and reminisce with relatives and friends that
you may not have seen for many years.
Andersons Mill Smeaton
Highlights of the weekend will be--

Visit
Andersons Mill, the very impressive four storey bluestone historic flour mill
with a working water wheel - see working steam engines and vintage steam
powered machinery.

Vintage
trucks and cars, re-enactments and various exhibits of the bygone era.

Re-enactment
of a delivery of local produce by teamster Bruce Hill and his team of
Clydesdales and wagon travelling from Clunes to Smeaton.
- See a
chainsaw sculpture being created of Captain Hepburn over both days.

At the
Smeaton Primary School view a local memorabilia exhibition, school records are
on display.
- Dinner
Dance - Saturday night 6.30pm – $35 per person - $20 primary school students
Entertainment by Callum Nash Ramage Band at the
Smeaton Community Centre.

- Photography
and Textile Artist Exhibition Display at the Primary School.

An art
exhibition 'Drought, Flood and Fire' by Roy Maloy is supported by the CWA will
be displayed in Smeaton House Stables.
The cemetery of the Hepburn Family can be viewed at
Smeaton House.

Enjoy
family fun performances by Roy Maloy an Iconic Australian Circus Performer at
the Primary School. Show times at 11am, 1 & 3pm. There will also be side
show performances and mini golf.
- Multimedia presentation of ‘Hepburn, History and Mines’ at the Primary School.
- Children
can have fun and participate in the Great Boat Race at Andersons Mill, Sunday
1pm.
- Hop on -
Hop off - bus tours of local historic sites including the Smeaton cemetery and
Smeaton House – records on display at the cemetery.
- Display
of Paintings and Pottery by local artists.
- Take a
self guided walking tour around the town including the old blacksmith shop.
- Church
service at Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 9.00 am, church records on display.
- Local
Producers at the Primary School.
- The
weekend will be a photographer’s delight with stunning scenery and displays.
